This is an optional information night to provide students and families with an opportunity to ask questions and gain a better understanding of Genesee High School's programming. The idea of an edible candy on a stick is very simple, and it is probable that the lollipop has been invented and reinvented numerous times. The first confections that closely resemble lollipops date back to the Middle Ages, when the nobility would often eat boiled sugar with the aid of sticks or handles. The term 'lollipop' was recorded by English lexicographer Francis Grose in 1796. The term may have derived from the term "lolly" (tongue) and "pop" (slap). The first references to the lollipop in its modern context date to the 1920s.

July 11th is National Blueberry Muffin Day. Here is some history behind this iconic breakfast food. While the exact origin of the blueberry muffin is unknown, there is a prevailing theory. Europeans used bilberries in various baked goods, including muffins and cakes. When the colonists arrived in North America they learned that there were no bilberries. However, there were plenty of wild blueberries, which Native Americans used in their own cooking. Some people theorize that the Europeans began using wild blueberries in place of bilberries in their recipes, including in muffins, thus giving birth to the blueberry muffin. Today, blueberry muffins are an extremely popular food and options run from healthy to decadent. In fact, blueberry muffins are so well-loved that they have an entire day dedicated to them!
